Visit to The Governor of Nyandarua by Kcsap National Project Coordinator and World Bank Team

H.E. the Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua welcomed the team to the County and members present introduced themselves. Hon. Ruth Mutua – County Executive Committee Member- Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, Water and Irrigation introduced the project and some of the activities done including signing of Partnership Agreement and Identification of the sites and the criteria for selection
The World Bank team leader took H. E. the Governor through the Kenya Climate Smart Agriculture Project and the expected outcome which is increased agricultural productivity, building resilience and reduced emission of Green House Gases. He emphasised that the project has a component on county investments such as irrigation schemes which can assist farmers. He noted that the project has a budget of 279 million US Dollars. World Bank Contribution is approximately 256 million US Dollars while Kenyan Government’s contribution is 23 million US Dollars. It is approximated that the county will receive about 1 billion Kenya shillings for the next 5 years.

The Governor appreciated the inclusion of the county in the project. He noted that the county has the capacity which can be used in the designing of the projects so as to reduce on cost so that most of the fund go to the communities. H.E noted that implementation timelines is lost on preliminaries which can be avoided. On the County Investments H.E Governor proposed irrigation schemes along the Athi River to be considered.
